USK Welcomes Three International Students Awarded the TIAS Scholarship

Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), through its Office of International Affairs (OIA), has officially welcomed three international students who received The Indonesian AID Scholarship (TIAS) to pursue their studies at USK for the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The scholarship awardees come from Kenya, Tanzania, and Papua New Guinea.
They are Lenox Hilary Okeyo from Kenya, who will be enrolling in the Master’s Program in Disaster Science; Remigius Auleus Willa from Tanzania, who will pursue a Master’s Degree in Environmental Management; and Vetari Kila from Papua New Guinea, who will study in the Bachelor’s Program in Accounting.
Before beginning their academic programs, the students will first attend an Indonesian Language Class or BIPA (Indonesian Language for Foreigners) Class Program, as part of their academic preparation and cultural adaptation. This program is designed to support their language proficiency, enabling them to follow lectures effectively and communicate confidently in daily interactions.
To assist their transition to campus life, USK OIA organized an orientation session on 23 October 2025. During the session, OIA Manager Ria Ervilita, S.Pd., M.Sc, delivered a presentation introducing the university, a living guide for Banda Aceh, and an overview of Acehnese culture to help the students adapt smoothly and minimize potential culture shock.

As part of the orientation agenda, the students also participated in a Library Tour on 24 October 2025. They were introduced to the facilities and services available at USK Library and learned how to access various academic resources. All three displayed enthusiasm throughout the tour and actively engaged with the facilitators.

The arrival of the new TIAS awardees marks another milestone in USK’s commitment to strengthening campus internationalization and expanding its global academic network through education and cultural exchange.
Welcome to USK! May your academic journey in Aceh be meaningful, memorable, and enriching.
