USK Rector Welcomes Educational Attaché of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

The Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), Prof. Marwan, welcomed the visit of the Educational Attaché of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, Arief Kusdwiadnanto, on Wednesday, 23 October 2025, at the USK Mini Rector’s Meeting Room. The visit aimed to monitor the progress of international students from Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands currently pursuing their studies at USK.

The students are recipients of the Developing Countries Partnership Scholarship (KNB) and The Indonesian AID Scholarship (TIAS). They are Vetari Kila (Accounting) and Kaloma Tombena (Civil Engineering) from Papua New Guinea, as well as Jayleen Rizwold Qoqonokana (Veterinary Medicine) from the Solomon Islands.

In his remarks, Prof. Marwan expressed his appreciation and reaffirmed USK’s commitment to supporting international students through various international collaboration and scholarship programs.

“USK will continue to support students who pursue their studies through programs such as KNB and TIAS. Currently, we have 150 international students studying at USK, including those from Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. I hope they actively engage in campus activities to gain valuable experiences throughout their studies,” said Prof. Marwan.

Educational Attaché of Port Moresby, Arief Kusdwiadnanto, also expressed his gratitude for USK’s warm reception and support towards the students from Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

“Thank you for the warm welcome. We truly appreciate the hospitality extended by USK to our students from Papua New Guinea. We hope they remain focused on their studies, complete their academic journey on time, and immerse themselves in the local community and culture,” he said.

The meeting marked another step toward strengthening educational cooperation between Indonesia and Pacific countries while also enhancing the academic experience and global exposure of international students studying at USK.
