USK Hosted the 2nd NMT Workshop

Universitas Syiah Kuala successfully hosted the second National Multiplication Trainings (NMT) Workshop on 14 – 16 July 2022 at Hermes Palace Hotel, Banda Aceh. The training was delivered in hybrid mode where participants attended in person and through virtual room meeting. Welcomed Delegates from 18 Indonesian higher institutions were welcomed to discuss strategies for achieving internationalization goals.
The event was officially opened by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Public Relation of Universitas Syiah Kuala, Dr. Ir. Taufiq Saidi, M.Eng., IPU. In his welcome remark Dr. Taufiq said that this event is important for universities to improve human resource capacities by engaging with other universities and getting involved in various international collaboration programs.
By taking part in this event, Dr. Taufiq continued, participants can seize opportunities to expand their university’s international network to be more widely recognized especially on a global scope.
Universitas Syiah Kuala invited several Indonesian universities to grow together in implementing higher institution internationalization strategies. In this workshop participants were trained on how to create and develop strategic international collaborations.
“This is a great opportunity for us to explore more strategies so that we can put our universities on the international level. We need this strategic thinking and planning to increase the university’s reputation”, Dr. Taufiq added.
The Chairman of the Office of International Affairs (OIA), Dr. Muzailin Affan explained that this is the second NMT workshop hosted by Universitas Syiah Kuala. The first workshop was held on 16 – 18 February 2022.
This workshop was the initiative of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) sponsored by German Federal Ministry for Economic Development and Cooperation (BMZ).
This second workshop is the continuation of the first workshop under the same theme “Internationalization Policies and Strategies to Support Emancipated Learning Educational Policy in Indonesia”.
Dr. Muzailin added that this event invited several reputable experts with internationalization experience to share their perspectives and best practices to the participants. Among the speakers was Dr. Birgit Barden-Laufer, Director of the International Office of the Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany. Practitioners from Indonesia were also invited as resource speakers, including Dr. Muzailin Affan M.Sc., Chairman of Office of International Affairs of Universitas Syiah Kuala, Adi Prasetyo Tedjakusuma B.Bus M.Com, Director of Institutional Cooperation of Universitas Surabaya, Ida Puspita S.S., M.A.Res, Head of International Partnership Division, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Erlyn Erawan, Psy.D., Director of International Affairs Office of Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya, Mateus Yumarnamto, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D., Academic Officer of Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya, Alfrida Hutapea, Coordinator for International Mobility of Universitas Indonesia, and Dr. Condro Wibowo, Coordinator of International Collaboration Task Force, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman.
Several topics were discussed in this training such as strategies and their implementation for higher institution internationalization program, and awareness raising for university internationalization program.
“This event is a fully supported program hosted by Universitas Syiah Kuala to boost up Indonesia’s higher institutions potential because we all are supposed to grow together in promoting education in Indonesia”, Dr. Muzailin concluded.
This second NMT Workshop is a collaborative event organized by six partner universities, Universitas Syiah Kuala, Universitas Surabaya, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Universitas Jenderal Soedirman, Universitas Katolik Widya Mandala Surabaya and Universitas Indonesia.
The training was attended by international office representatives from 18 universities: Universitas Medan Area, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang, Universitas Muhammadiyah Aceh, Universitas Teuku Umar, Universitas Serambi Mekkah, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat, STIKes Muhammadiyah Lhokseumawe, Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palangkaraya, Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung, Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji (UMRAH), Universitas Samudra, Universitas Almuslim, STKIP Muhammadiyah Aceh Barat Daya, STKIP Muhammadyah Aceh Tengah, IAIN Lhokseumawe, Universitas Dehasen Bengkulu, and Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro.
