USK Hosted Orientation Day for Incoming International Students 2023/2024

As one effort of campus globalization, Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) welcomed 22 international students hailing from Southeast Asia, Australia, and Africa for the 2023/2024 academic year. Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, USK Rector, opened the event on Wednesday 25 October 2023, at USK Senate Hall.
The Rector congratulated all international students. He hoped they could perform their best during study at campus and adapt well, as well as gain valuable experience in developing their soft competencies.
“Universitas Syiah Kuala, we are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse learning environment,” Rector said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Muzailin Affan., M.Sc., Chairman of the Office of International Affairs (OIA), also welcomed all international students. He hoped that while studying in Banda Aceh, the students also establish connections with communities and explore the city.
He further explained that this year 30 candidates applied to study at USK, but only 16 students were accepted to study at USK, they are from Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and Libya. Each applied for undergraduate degrees at the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Engineering, and Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
“With a total of around 120 international students at USK this year, the level of campus internationalization has increased. We hope that in the future USK can become a world-class university,” he said.
This year, USK in collaboration with the Ministry offers scholarship programs for prospective students, such as the Darmasiswa Program, KNB (Kemitraan Negara Berkembang) Program, and USK Rector Scholarship Program.
Besides, there is a program called BIPA (Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers) program hosted by USK, and currently, there are 3 students, 1 from Tajikistan and 2 from Kyrgyzstan who have registered for this program.
