Universitas Syiah Kuala, under the coordination of the Office of International Affairs (OIA), held an Info Session event for studying in the United States. The event took place in the VIP room of AAC Dayan Dawood on March 6, 2024.
The session featured speakers directly from the United States, Oberlin College, namely Gavin Tritt, Executive Director of Shansi, accompanied by a fellow interning at USK, Jack Arnold Stevens.
The purpose of this Info Session was to open the way and provide essential information for students and lecturers of USK who wish to pursue studies, teaching, short-term visits, or specific academic activities there, particularly at Oberlin College.
Aligned with its university vision of deepening mutual respect and understanding through exchange between Asia and the United States, Gavin introduced Oberlin College and one of its excellent programs, the Oberlin Shansi program, during the presentation.
One of Oberlin Shansi programs, that is Visiting Scholar Program, offers opportunities for USK lecturers to teach, conduct research, or lecture. Additionally, the Shansi program also welcomes the possibility for students who wish to visit Oberlin College.
Over the years, many alumni, including lecturers from USK, have completed the Visiting Scholar program, along with alumni from Oberlin College who have completed fellowships through the Oberlin Shansi program as well, which began in 2007 until today.
Furthermore, Gavin explained the available programs at Oberlin College that can be applied currently, and he shared tips and tricks on how to prepare documents for applying for studies in the United States.
