Universitas Syiah Kuala will keep supporting the development of Human Resources (HR), especially in preparing a workforce that is reliable at the national level and skilled on the global stage. This was stated by the Rector of USK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, at the13th IMT-GT Working Group on Human Resource Development (WGHRD) meeting, held at Hermes Hotel, Banda Aceh, on 2-3 August 2023.
On behalf of the Secretariat of the IMT-GT (Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle) University Network (UNINET), Prof. Marwan expressed his gratitude and appreciation for this significant meeting, since there was a mutual goal of encouraging regional cooperation and progress in the IMT-GT sub-region.
UNINET is the IMT-GT Think Tank that commits to supporting the efforts of governments, the business sector, IMT-GT working groups, and other relevant stakeholders in accelerating the implementation of important projects and programs.
“Our main goal is to advance human resource development in the IMT-GT sub-region because skilled and innovative human resources are the key to growth and they can support the prosperity of any region,” Rector said.
In addition, IMT-GT has successfully launched the 2nd UNINET (University Network) Strategic Action Plan (USAP) 2022-2026 to provide proactive support. With its new role as a Think Tank, UNINET is expected to assist and collaborate with all Working Groups, Joint Business Councils, CIMT, National Secretariat, local communities, and businesses.
IMT-GT has created several impactful programs including the UNINET Internship Program, Capacity Building Training, Design Thinking – Digital Workshop, UNINET Virtual Presidential Roundtable, and others.
IMT-GT also launched a new program called the IMT-GT UNINET Find Grads Initiative Program to empower students by bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application, preparing them with the skills and confidence needed to excel in the work or professional world.
“We believe that the strength of our network lies in our ability to foster collaboration and inclusivity. By actively involving stakeholders from various sectors, like government, business, academia, or civil society, we can together create an environment that is innovative and productive, and ensure a brighter future for the younger generation,” Rector added.
He also hoped that the meeting, which involved the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower, would produce something useful and pave the way for a future marked by shared prosperity and growth.
“Let’s restate our commitment to the IMT-GT vision of a thriving and unified sub-region, where every member country and the people develop together,” he concluded.
In line with that, the Chair of IMT-GT Working Group on Human Resource Development (WGHR), Dr. Zaki Zakaria confirmed that collaboration is the key to the success of skilled workers from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
“Through this forum, we hope to continue to collaborate, and support each other in various activities to improve the economy, especially regarding big data, IoT, or sustainable data,” said Zaki.
Moreover, Firdaus Dahlan, the Director of the IMT GT sub-regional Cooperation (CIMT) Center delivered that holding this meeting is significant where the attendees can reformulate the views and experiences across countries into a strategy for the growth of human resources.
