Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) welcomed a delegation from the University of Nations (UofN), South Korea, Prof. Kim Sung Kyu, Head of the Korean Cultural Center, on 30 January 2025. The delegation was warmly welcomed by USK Rector, Prof. Marwan, as they explored potential collaboration on an international internship program between the two institutions.

During the visit, Prof. Kim presented a proposal for a partnership that would allow USK students to undertake internships at leading industries in South Korea tailored to their respective academic backgrounds, while also providing them the opportunity to enhance their Korean language proficiency.

“USK students will have the chance to intern at renowned companies in South Korea while learning the Korean language,” stated Prof. Kim. He further explained that the program is designed for final-year students, offering them hands-on experience in major industries and the potential to secure employment post-graduation.

Prof. Marwan expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, highlighting the significant opportunities it presents for students. “We appreciate this initiative. It is an exciting collaboration, as students will not only gain academic credits from the internship but also have a strong chance of securing future employment in South Korean companies,” he remarked.

Prof. Kim emphasized that the international internship program would be open to students from various disciplines, including agriculture, artificial intelligence, engineering, marine sciences, environmental studies, and others.

Dr. Muzailin Affan, Chairman of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) of USK, also attended the meeting and welcomed the initiative. He affirmed that the OIA, following the rector’s directive, would select top-performing students to participate in the prestigious internship program in South Korea.

Esther Lee, Chief of Staff Operations of the King Sejong Institute (KSI), also attended the meeting. She reviewed the progress of USK’s collaboration with UofN, particularly regarding KSI’s activities. She noted that KSI has grown significantly, with various successful programs attracting many students eager to learn the Korean language and culture.

Additionally, USK reported that one of its students has successfully participated in a student exchange program at Jeju National University, while a USK alumnus is currently pursuing a master’s degree at Seoul National University.

The proposed internship collaboration is expected to strengthen academic ties between USK and UofN while offering valuable international exposure and career opportunities for USK students.
