URI Recognizes 5 Students of USK with the Natural Resources & Environment Award

University of Rhode Island (URI) has awarded five students of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) with honors that recognize the natural resources and environment. The award was given by the Brook William Ross, the representative from URI, at Balai Senat, USK, 10 June 2022.
Heru Setiawan, T. Ryven Trias Kembara, M. Rizki Fazillah, M. Rizki and Siti Syifa Azzhara have been awarded the Natural Resources & Environment Award. The students are the recipients of the Split Site program scholarship, arranged by both universities.
During the ceremony, Brook William Ross said in his speech that this Split Site program is the first partnership program designed by both universities, although the history has recorded the historical relation between Aceh and USA a long time ago. Around 200 years ago, trade ships from Banda Aceh have stopped by at the port of Road Island in USA. Therefore, he thought this partnership is necessary and has a historical value that should be kept.
“This collaboration is relevant to Indonesia, especially in area of Blue Economic and Ocean Science, and Climate Change”, he added.
Prof. Marwan, the rector of USK welcomed the partnership with pleased. During the time it has given a great benefit in education development. Even he hoped that this partnership can support another potential of cooperation for both universities.
“The university is open for partnership possibility in another field. Besides, Universitas Syiah Kuala has expertise centers such as Tsunami Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC). It plays the significant role as the reference for the world research”.
Attended in the ceremony Dr. Darmadi, Director of Split Site Program, Dr. Kismullah, Secretary of Split Site Program, Prof. Thomas Boving, Senior Lecturer of URI, Jessica Chess Bro, Deputy Consulate of USA, Dr. Ir. Taufiq S., M.Eng., IPU, Vice Rector of USK, and Dr. Muzailin, S.Si, M.Sc., Chairman of Office of International Affairs.
