Syiah Kuala University and University of the Nations Sign MoU

A memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Syiah Kuala University Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, M. Eng, and University of the Nations President, Prof. Chang Hoon Lee, from Korea, on 22 January 2020. The five-years MoU is aimed to have collaborations on promoting social, art, and cultural aspects, education, counseling, sports, tourism, health care and investment, also faculty and student exchange program. On that occasion, both parties were pleased with the cooperation that has been built since 2008.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Samsul Rizal, M. Eng, said that Syiah Kuala University was glad to be able to build cooperation with a university from Korea, University of the Nations, moreover both universities have built the cooperation for a long time ago which provided a number academic activities, which also brought new opportunities.

The President of the University of the Nations expressed that they were also glad to have a collaboration with one of the famous universities in Indonesia, especially Aceh, and they hoped their university can learn more from Indonesia.

Regarding the cooperation, the Aceh Government also built cooperation with the University of the Nations, which was represented by Mr. Kamaruddin Andalah. 

Earlier before the MoU signing, an Educational Seminar themed: Promoting Exchange Program on Education, Cultures, and Industry between Syiah Kuala University and the University of the Nations was held successfully at Academic Activity Center (AAC) Dayan Dawood building of Syiah Kuala University. The seminar which was officially opened by Dr. Hizir, the vice rector for Planning, Collaboration, and Public Relations, was part of the series of activities of Korea Days 2020.

The educational seminar presented four outstanding speakers from both parties, from Syiah Kuala University, they are Dr. Muzailin Affan, the Chairman of Office of International Affairs, and Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid, the Director of UKM Center, and from University of the Nations, they are Prof. Sung Kyu Kim, Ph.D. the Executive Director, Korean Cultural Center, and Esther Lee, the Chief of FAF.

Dr. Muzailin Affan through his presentation delivered a brief overview of achievement and activities that have been successfully organized by both parties, as well as various programs that can be held in the future.

In terms of academy and industry, Dr. Iskandarsyah Madjid highlighted several points about it and the role of the university on it. Moreover, he said Syiah Kuala University has formed a cooperation with Korea associations that focused on Patchouli oil that has brought fruitful cooperation between both.

Meanwhile from Korea speakers, Prof. Sung Kyu Kim gave a historical cooperation presentation between both universities within 10 years from 2008 to 2019. And another speaker is Esther Lee who talked about the achievement of her program during the stay in Aceh, which focused on Arts. 

Other activities of Korea Days were Acehnese Kids Art Expo at AAC Lobby, where numerous kinds of Acehnese kids artworks were displayed, and Indonesia and Korea Traditional Performances at AAC backyard and Taman Sari of City Center, where several Acehnese traditional dances, Tae Kwon Do, and Korea traditional dances were performed by each. The Korea Days activities were held on 22-24 January 2020.
