Student Solar Ambassador Workshop
Taking Solar Student Workshop 2018 a notch higher, Syiah Kuala University in Collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) held Student Solar Ambassador Workshop on October 2nd, 2019 at the Office of International Affairs of the university.
As carbon and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have increased dramatically in the past few decades, the threat of climate change has also grown. Solar energy being a renewable, carbon-free resource available, the Solar Ambassador Students of Syiah Kuala University deem it necessary to take part in the current situation.
In the wake of Energy Sustainability and Mitigating Climate Change, the world should become net carbon zero by the year 2050, an extremely difficult task to achieve. As part of Adopting the Solar Energy, it’s our responsibility to Surrender of grid electricity, practice non-violence towards nature and become self-reliant in Energy. At Syiah Kuala University though its Solar Urja and Localization for Sustainability.
Indian Institute of Technology and Syiah Kuala University initiates to work on facilitating and localized solar solutions involving students in assembly, distribution, repair and maintenance, and even manufacturing of the solar products in the future. These initiative has directly and indirectly benefited many students and households. In this context, an idea of “Energy Swaraj” or localized energy self-sufficiency has been conceptualized. To propagate Energy Swaraj, Gandhi Global Solar Yatra (GGSY, www.ggsy.in) is planned not only in India but across the globe.
The young generation, who will bear the maximum burden of climate change, has to be an integral part of this clean energy revolution. A workshop on 2nd October 2019 is being organized across the globe to make young students as Student Solar Ambassadors, sensitizing them on solar energy and giving them hands-on training to make their solar study lamp.
The event also marks the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi ‘Father of the Nation’. A similar workshop was organized on 2nd October 2018, which was also a Guinness World Record event.
