Oberlin College USA Visited USK
Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) welcomed a delegation from Oberlin College, United States, represented by Gavin Tritt, Executive Director of Shansi, on 5 March 2024. The visit was welcomed by the Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, in the rector’s mini room.
“The cooperation between USK and Oberlin College has been established for 17 years, starting in 2007, when Oberlin College sent its first two fellows for internships at USK under the Oberlin Shansi program,” said Prof. Marwan.
The Rector pointed out that several USK lecturers have successfully participated in programs at Oberlin College through the Visiting Scholar program, where faculty and staff are allowed to spend a semester in America to enhance their professional and scholarly development.
“Recently, one of the USK lecturers is participating in the Oberlin Shansi program, a lecturer from the Faculty of Mining Engineering, Izzan Nur Aslam, S.T., M.Eng. Hopefully, this cooperation will continue and can facilitate academic cooperation activities with various faculties in the future,” the Rector hoped.
Meanwhile, Gavin Tritt expressed great pleasure in seeing alumni who have completed internships at USK, allowing them to meet great people in Aceh and share their experiences with students in America.
“I am very grateful to USK for its willingness to cooperate with Oberlin College, and this is a very long-standing cooperation that truly represents Oberlin Shansi,” Gavin said.
He hoped that by sending fellows from Oberlin College, they could continue to support USK, especially in developing the English language skills of USK students for academic purposes.
“Today, USK has two Oberlin Shansi program fellows, they are Jack Arnold Stevens and Ariana Leandry. Each of them will carry out the program for two years at USK,” he revealed.
Aside from internships, Oberlin College would also be delighted to collaborate with USK in the scope of academic visits, teaching, and joint research. Gavin expressed his gratitude to USK for welcoming his visit and for the warm reception.
“I like the city of Banda Aceh,” Gavin concluded.
Presented at this meeting were the Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnerships, & Business, Prof. Dr. Ir. Taufiq S., M.Eng., IPU, Chairman of the Office of International Affairs, Dr. Muzailin Affan, and staff, as well as the Head of the Language Center, Dr. Kismullah.
