King Sejong Institute (KSI) Banda Aceh successfully held the Korean Language Camp 2025 from 23 to 25 June 2025, at the Postgraduate Building of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK). This program was an initiative by KSI to provide participants with an immersive experience in learning the Korean language and culture through a series of interactive and enjoyable activities.

A total of 40 participants joined the camp, including members of KSI’s special classes and individuals from the general public. Enthusiasm was high, as shown by the participants’ active involvement in every session, especially during their interactions with native Korean speakers from University of the Nations (UofN), Jeju, South Korea.

Over the course of three days, participants engaged in various fun and practical activities aimed at improving their Korean language skills. The program began with an Orientation Session for K-Camp 2025, followed by role-play simulations of real-life situations such as immigration, cafes, supermarkets, and cosmetic stores.

Other highlights included a letter writing and presentation session, where participants wrote letters to their future selves and read them aloud to the class. There were also Korean cooking competitions featuring popular dishes like ramen, kimbap, and tteokbokki, traditional Korean games inspired by Squid Game, and K-pop dance practice and performances that added excitement and energy to the camp.

The collaboration between USK and KSI has been ongoing since 2023, under the coordination of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) USK and Jeju National University. The establishment of KSI Banda Aceh was officially inaugurated by the Rector of USK, Prof. Marwan, at the USK Postgraduate Building. The KSI Banda Aceh branch is led by Dr. Muzailin Affan, who also serves as the Head of OIA USK.

On this occasion, the Chairwoman of the USK Dharma Wanita Association (DWP), Eti Indarti Marwan, expressed her appreciation for this collaborative event. She emphasized that the program provides a creative platform for young people, allowing them not only to listen to Korean conversations firsthand but also to explore various cultural expressions and culinary creations.

“The creations made were very colorful, and the food was not only delicious but also healthy,” she said.

Eti also expressed her hope that through this program, participants would not only improve their Korean language skills but also gain a deeper understanding of Korean cultural values. This event reflects KSI Banda Aceh’s strong commitment to providing practical, inclusive, and enjoyable learning experiences for the broader community.

For Fitri, one of the camp participants, the K-Camp was a thrilling and enriching experience. Although she had joined similar programs in the past, this edition felt different and more impactful.

“We had the chance to truly learn and practice Korean directly with native speakers,” said Fitri.
“In addition to the language and culture sessions, there were also games that made the atmosphere even more fun. I hope there will be more K-Camps in the future!”
