Independence Day Celebration at USK

On 17 August 2024, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) hosted a lively Independence Day field day, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of international students. The event started with a semi-formal opening ceremony led by Dr. Muzailin Affan, Chairman of OIA, setting the tone for a day filled with fun and friendship.
OIA set up a series of traditional Indonesian games that captured the spirit of the holiday. International students excitedly took part in classic competitions, including Lompat Tali (Skipping Rope), Memasukkan Paku dalam Botol (Putting the Nail in the Bottle), Oper Tepung (Passing the Flour), Tebak Kata (Guess the Word), Balap Kelereng (Marble Race), Makan Kerupuk (Cracker Eating), Estafet (Relay Race), and Balap Karung (Sack Race).
International students from a diverse range of countries, including India, Libya, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Australia, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Gambia, competed with enthusiasm. The games were not just about winning prizes; they were a chance for students to experience Indonesian culture firsthand, fostering a sense of unity and teamwork.
The event was a success, with participants and audiences enjoying the lively atmosphere. The games brought out a spirit of friendly competition, with students cheering each other on and sharing in the laughter and joy that filled the air.
Beyond the competition, the day served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community and connection. It was a heartwarming sight to see students from different backgrounds come together, share stories, and embrace the festive spirit of Indonesia’s Independence Day.
OIA expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the international students and local student volunteers who contributed to making the event memorable. Their active participation and excitement were key to the day’s success, leaving everyone looking forward to future celebrations.
