GPMS Malaysia Visit to Syiah Kuala University

On 24 October 2019, Syiah Kuala University welcomed GPMS (Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung) from Malaysia. The envoy of 30 were welcomed by Dr. Muzailin Affan, the Chairman of Office of International Affairs, and Rahmat Lubis, S.E, the chief of Academic Bureau.

Dr. Muzailin stated that Syiah Kuala University is glad and the visit was an honorable. For decades, Syiah Kuala University has built a cooperation with several universities in Malaysia that intent to improve education quality between two neighboring countries.

“We are pleased to have you all here to share and discuss information and experiences. I hope we can get good opportunities and development after this meeting especially on improving education” said Dr. Muzailin.

He also added that within two years Syiah Kuala University has completed Global Volunteering Program in Malaysia, “Kuliah Kerja Nyata” where students from Syiah Kuala University were appointed to serve societies in rural areas of Malaysia by conducting volunteering projects. Besides, this year Syiah Kuala University already assign 20 students.

For future cooperation, Syiah Kuala University welcomes any offer of cooperation with any institution or university from Malaysia to conduct certain programs especially volunteering program.

Datuk Bakrin bin Sadek, a representative of GPMS Malaysia, stated that the visit was a reciprocate of the first visit by a delegation from Syiah Kuala University to Melaka, Malaysia, through Kuliah Kerja Nyata program. He also expressed his gratefulness that the Kuliah Kerja Nyata program was done successfully on June 2019 in Melaka, and the program presented a lot of excellent impressions and assistances towards communities. The visit also aimed to strengthen and follow up cooperation between two parties.

“The societies gained much knowledge and information, they obtained new information about religion, cuisines, and cultural activities organized by Syiah Kuala University students within three weeks of their stay in Melaka”, he added.

The two parties signed certificate of cooperation with two schools of Melaka; Sekolah Kebangsaan Demang Hussin and Sekolah Kebangsaan Ayer Keroh.
