Exploring Cultures & Embracing Opportunities
The Student Exchange program organized by National Quemoy University (NQU) in Taiwan has been a remarkable journey for me. It has opened doors to learning new languages, especially Mandarin, and provided opportunities to share knowledge with fellow students.
Within one semester (September 2023 – January 2024), engaging in cultural classes has not only deepened my understanding of local heritage but also cultivated cross-cultural appreciation. Mandarin, beyond being a linguistic skill, has become a gateway to better communication and richer experiences within the local environment. By integrating required classes relevant to my major, I ensured that my academic pursuits remained focused and meaningful.
The flexibility to choose a study program aligned with my home university major, Computer Engineering, allowed me to seamlessly integrate the Kinmen experience into my academic journey. This adaptability has been invaluable, enabling exploration of areas not typically covered in my home university’s curriculum.
My time in Kinmen was filled with diverse activities, from paintball and lantern-making to tasting local delicacies and engaging in cultural events like watching Taiwanese historical films. These experiences not only added excitement to my stay but also offered a holistic blend of physical, artistic, and cultural immersion. Participating in activities like cooking special meals deepened my connection with local culture and people, allowing me to savor the unique flavors of Kinmen.
Through exploration and participation in these diverse activities, I not only created cherished memories but also gained a deeper appreciation for Kinmen’s cultural nuances. These experiences have undoubtedly shaped my perspective on the region and influenced my broader worldview.
The skills acquired and relationships built during this international experience are invaluable for my personal and professional development. Adaptability, teamwork, and a global perspective are crucial skills in today’s interconnected world, and engaging in sports provided an excellent platform for honing these qualities.
My journey in Kinmen has been filled with enriching experiences. I am very grateful to have been able to join and experience such extraordinary opportunities. Being part of this program has not only facilitated learning but has also fostered a sense of solidarity and camaraderie with fellow participants.
As I continue my journey, I aspire to maintain the momentum gained from this international endeavor. It marks a significant chapter in my personal and professional growth, and I am eager to seize fresh opportunities and contribute positively to society.
