Being an Outstanding Participant of GYLA Program
I was so lucky to be selected as the one of outstanding participants of the Global Youth Leadership Academy (GYLA) program. It is a world-class educational and experimental learning program, that provides students with leadership training, global and cultural awareness, and builds participants’ commitment to servant leadership. The program was started from 16 Aug to 27 Aug 2021, held by GYLA itself in collaboration with M3TRIX Academy, and UN agencies.
“My essay was selected as the top 10 outstanding essays among all participants from different countries, Germany, Indonesia, Africa and Iraq. I considered education as one of the keys that can change and develop a nation, so I decided to raise the theme in my essay, with the detail the Low of Literacy Awareness in Indonesia. Another specific reason is the theme fits my background as the Reading Ambassador of Universitas Syiah Kuala 2019. I took this chance and wrote literacy issues that are increasing during the pandemic which can also give a failed impact to achieve one of the SDGs goals in the field of education. I presented this theme on the virtual forum by explaining the issues, solutions, and contributions within three minutes in front of judges and audiences from various countries.
GYLA program allowed me to get connected with famous global speakers and many young people who have different backgrounds and cultures. Whenever I met them, I was mesmerized by their optimism and desire to make a real impact on a certain issue. The program perfectly embodies this positive energy, provides a platform for our future leaders to speak out, connects, and scales solutions for a more sustainable future. In short, GYLA encourages all participants to think globally yet act locally. slot69 link alternatif
Regarding the GYLA program, this year it took the theme “Empowering Youth as Global Leaders for Championing Post-Pandemic Futures and Engagement in SDGs”. This two-week program persuaded all participants to learn particularly about the role of UN institutions, key sustainability, and leadership challenges and how these can be addressed through close collaboration and action learning approaches. Tackling global issues like the climate crisis or social inequalities requires a new form of collaboration and leadership. Engaging the leaders of tomorrow is essential in solving these and many more challenges. In my view, this is an amazing opportunity especially for students and young professionals who intend to learn about their role in achieving the SDGs, while collaborating with other participants globally.
The program invited several professional speakers from different world organizations that are under the United Nations. It gave me and other participants chances to directly discuss global issues, even ask for the possibility to conduct internships or career prospects in the organizations.
In this program, there was a day where the participants had to present the results of their contribution in achieving the SDG goals that were recently done in each country. Also, there was the Cultural and Talent Performance Day where all participants had a chance to perform their unique talents such as singing, making a magic trick, and others.
I enjoyed this program and had many interesting experiences such as being able to directly discuss with the best speakers from various countries and present ideas through a mini group project that collaborated with other participants.
Although the program has ended, I will not make this network and connection stop till here, I will take this chance to improve my relations and contribution. I plan to design a new global youth project collaborated with the alumni of the GYLA program.
