The King Sejong Institute (KSI) Banda Aceh branch, under Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), successfully organized the Korean Language Speech Contest on 15 May 2024, at the USK Pasca Sarjana Building.
The objective of this competition was to provide a platform for KSI class participants and Aceh societies with an interest and talent in the Korean language. Additionally, it aimed to promote Korean culture through the language.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Muzailin Affan, the Head of KSI Banda Aceh, and the Chairman of the Office of International Affairs of USK.
“Korea and its culture are well-known worldwide, which is why many people enjoy learning Korean. Nowadays, learning foreign languages, including Korean, is relatively easy. People can learn autodidactically through YouTube videos, books, films, etc., or formal education. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Korean language, as a part of its culture, is widely popular,” said Dr. Muzailin Affan.
The competition attracted significant interest, with a total of 20 participants from various backgrounds. The winner of the competition will be invited to Korea to participate in the finals and receive training on Korean culture.
“I hope that through competitions like this, students and the Acehnese community with an interest in foreign languages, particularly Korean, will continue to improve their language skills and win the competition, thereby having the opportunity to visit Korea,” Dr. Muzailin Affan concluded.
This Korean Language Speech Contest is set to become an annual event organized by KSI.
