USK Welcomes Delegations from UofN Korea
Prof. Dr. Ir Marwan, Rector of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), welcomed delegations from the University of the Nations (UofN) Jeju on 4 September 2023 to strengthen cooperation between both universities.
The delegations from UofN included President of University of the Nations Jeju, Lee Chang Hoon, Head of Korean Cultural Center, Kim Sung Kyu, King Sejong Institute Banda Aceh Operational Staff from UofN Jeju, Jeong Hye Young, International Office of UofN Jeju staff, Joshua Kim Kyoung Hwan, Head of Operational Staff of King Sejong Institute Banda Aceh, Esther Lee, and Leader of One Voice Team Jeju, Bae Min Sung.
“The cooperation has been built 15 years ago till today, which first was started by Prof. Kim,” Rector said.
Several activities were successfully hold at Universitas Syiah Kuala, such as Korean Language courses, Korea Week, Korea Food Festival, and Tae Kwon Do. Due to that reason, the rector appreciates the achievements.
In addition, many USK students are capable to speak in Korean language. The Rector believes that this is a good chance for both to strengthen the collaboration. Therefore, USK wants to expand the collaboration in different fields such as Joint-research, Publication, International Conferences and Student Exchange.
“We would like to takes higher level, and becomes a World Class University,” he said.
President of the University of the Nations Jeju, Lee Chang Hoon, said that he was grateful for the warm welcoming from the USK, especially for the fully support of the King Sejong Institute forming at USK, including helping with the hospitality for teaching staff from Korea.
“We would like to deliver thank you for welcoming us, and we happy to know that many students from here have learnt Korean language. I think this is possible for them to continue study in Korea, or even work at Korea industries”, he said.
Both parties will continue support each other in promoting arts and cultural activities, together with Architecture Major of Engineering Faculty of USK, and OIA, also promote Korea Corner located in USK Library. Currently, the cooperation is strong enough since both parties organize King Sejong Institute (KSI) Banda Aceh at USK.
“King Sejong Institute at USK will be a combination of Korean culture promotion and language learning that will be taught to students and Acehnese people,” Lee Chang Hoon added.
For the future, Rector hoped that UofN can support USK in achieving the World Class University program and MBKM program, where UofN can bridge the university to the Korea industries for internship program, especially cosmetic companies because Korea is recognized as the top beauty market in the world.
“Since Universitas Syiah Kuala has Atsiri Research Center, it could give us a chance to collaborate with or doing a joint-research program with UofN”, Rector closed.
