Consulate-General of Japan Visit USK
Consul General, Consulate-General of Japan in Medan, Dr. Takonai Susumu, Ph.D. visited Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) along with his wife and secretary, Mariati, on 14 July 2023. They were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, Rector of USK.
On that occasion, the Rector explained the recent status of USK, as well as introduced various degree programs, non-degree programs, and short programs that are managed by the university.
He added that USK has many alumni who have graduated from famous universities in Indonesia and abroad. Especially in Japan, there are at least around 150 USK lecturers who have finished their studies at Japanese universities.
Rector also introduced one of USK’s excellence, which is the study program of Disaster Mitigation. Regarding that, USK collaborated with Tohoku University and Kobe University a long time ago and also successfully organized several joint programs.
For those reasons, Rector hoped that the partnership with the Japanese Government can be kept and developed for future programs.
“Hopefully this meeting can follow up the cooperation program that has existed so far. Apart from that, we are also willing to support programs from the Japanese Government, especially for the development of Aceh,” he said.
Dr. Takonai Susumu said that his visit was aimed to strengthen communication and partnership between USK and the Japanese government. He considered that Japan and Aceh have a close emotional relationship because they both experienced great disasters, that are earthquakes and tsunamis. This is what motivated the Japanese Government to continue to support the development of Aceh.
“Because Aceh is a symbol of friendship, and today meeting is a momentum for us to encourage future cooperation,” he said.
