Info Session: Study in the USA

OIA (Office of International Affairs) of Universitas Syiah Kuala successfully hold Info Session: Study in USA, on 7 December 2022, at VIP Room, AAC Building.

The event was officially opened by the Vice-Rector for Academic, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agussabti, M.Si. Through his speech, he said that this is a good chance to connect Education USA with USK, and it is a very fruitful connection considering the beneficial network to build.

“When we hear the word U.S.A, I believe many things come to our mind, starting from the liberty statue, recognized universities worldwide like Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and so on. They are certainly big universities with the best quality of education. However, we try our best to experience at least the taste of studying in the U.S. through available scholarships. So, I hope that we, especially the students, could gain more information on how to get the chance to go to the U.S.”, said the Rector.

The event presented two resource speakers from EducationUSA, they were Luke Yim, the Regional Educational Advising Coordinator, and Lilis Su’adah, EcucationUSA Adviser Aceh.

EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of over 400 advising centers in more than 170 countries. It is committed to promoting the diversity of U.S. higher education to help international students find their best fit. Through this Info Session event, EducationUSA aims to provide accurate, comprehensive, current, and unbiased information about opportunities to study at accredited postsecondary institutions in the United States.

Especially about the scholarship, Luke Yim said that the biggest source of study finance is family funds. However, students can look for other financial support from various sources such as IEFA.org, Fastweb.com, Collegeboard.com, Scholarships.com, IIE.org, and Scholly App.

Lilis Su’adah added that there are scholarship options for Indonesian students like Fulbright, LPDP, BPI (Beasiswa Pendidikan Indonesia), Non-Government scholarships (Eg.: East-West Centre, Bank, etc.), Local Government Scholarship (Eg.: BPSDM Aceh), U.S Universitas (Eg.: Assistantship).

This info session event not only provided information about taking a degree, but also the fellowship or exchange, they are Global Undergraduate, Community College Initiative, Foreign Language Teaching Assistant, Teaching program for International Teacher (DAI), Indonesian International Students Mobility Awards, Indonesian International Vocational Students Mobility Awards, and Youth Program (YSEALI).
