Joint Research Opportunity with the University of Ostrava

Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) welcomed the delegations from the University of Ostrava, Czech Republic, on 13 May 2022, at the Auditorium of Veterinary Faculty. The delegation visit was aimed to conduct a meeting and a presentation on joint research between USK and the University of Ostrava. The meeting was supposed to open an opportunity to conduct academic cooperation between both parties and share information regarding the joint research. On that occasion, Mgr. Jan Macháček, Ph.D., a representative from the University of Ostrava, introduced the University of Ostrava, as well as the research interests that possible to do the joint research. The University of Ostrava is a dynamic research institution that offers a high-quality level of education and research in the humanities, social and natural sciences, health studies, medicine, and fine arts. The university has six faculties, they are Faculty of Science, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Studies, Faculty of Fine Arts, and Faculty of Education. Besides, it has two institutes that are recognized as the center of excellence, they are the Institute for Research and Application of Fuzzy Modelling and the European Research Institute for Social Work. The university also has formed the International Agreement with 250 partner universities. Regarding the joint research, Adela Hemelikova, M.Sc., the foreign researcher, delivered a presentation about the Life Science collaboration, especially on Sea Turtle joint-research in Sumatera, Indonesia, that success has been conducted recently. Generally, the research investigated the turtle life cycle, conservation, genetic issues, and others. This research has collaborated with another association named Liberec Zoo. Liberec Zoo is the oldest zoo in the Czech Republic, founded in 1904, as mentioned by Thomas Ouhel, M.Sc., in his presentation. He then mentioned several visions for future cooperation between Universitas Syiah Kuala and the University of Ostrava. Both are possible to do various academic activities such as collaborative research, Seminar, courses, visitation, and other possible events. At the end of the meeting, the event brought a fruitful discussion and is expected can strengthen the collaboration between both universities in academic fields. In addition, the event was attended by the Vice-Rector of USK, Prof. Hizir, the Dean of Veterinary Faculty, drh. Teuku Reza Ferasyi, M. Sc., Ph.D., heads of the USK work division, lecturers, students, and officers of USK.
