Learning EU Politics & Global Economics During Covid-19
It was a great opportunity for Universitas Syiah Kuala international students to be able to join the Erasmus Jean Monnet 2021 Program that was held by Airlangga University in collaboration with Erasmus+.
The program themed Understanding European Integration in Its Multidisciplinary Perspective (EU-MAP) is a creditable and online course, held during the COVID-19 pandemic. The selected students can choose a course related to his/her background of the study as a substitute course. The available courses are European Union Politics, Public Health & Immigration, and Doing Business Globally: EU-Indonesia from a Multidisciplinary Perspective.
This program is held for one semester and was started in September 2020. The participants of this program are students from various countries such as Indonesia, Senegal, Philippines, Gambia, and so on.
From Aceh, Indonesia, Universitas Syiah Kuala, two students have been selected to join this program, they are Mamadou Pouye (Senegal), Teacher Training of English Education, and Lamin Samura (Gambia), International Economics Development. The program gave them certain feedbacks that can increase their knowledge and understanding.
“The program is very relevant and inspiring. It has a joy taste for me because I am willing to know more about politics. Courses are taught by competitive lecturers, and it connects students and scholars into a worldwide network. Besides, it certainly increases my interest in politics. After Universitas Syiah Kuala, Airlangga University with the EU-MAP program gave me the opportunity to enlarge my academic experience. Being in the same class with students from a different origin, culture and skills are somehow stimulating my motivation. Thanks to God”, Mamadou said.
Moreover, based on Lamin, this program is a memorable program for him. He can meet new friends and complete a task together online through group work. Moreover, the discussion sessions are interesting because the people come up with different opinions and questions that can develop his intelligence.
“I am taking the Doing Business Globally course. The program is so far so good, it is effective and I happen to learn a lot. Talking of the environment, though it is online, it is really good and I feel like am doing it manually. I do enjoy it a lot because the lecturers are so open and there explanation is exceptional. Also, the program was really helpful because we started about the foundation and history of other international country’s way of economics and business and so on, which helped a lot. It has an impact on my studies as at now because I can understand the basics of international business, as well as I able to think critically about how business works internationally at the root”, he added.
