Cultural Presentation through the International Food Festival 2019

Syiah Kuala University held a spectacular event named the 4th International Food Festival, September 17-19, 2019, at Gelanggang Mahasiswa of Syiah Kuala University. The festival brought up the theme “Foods Evolution” that promoted on the days traditional and modern cuisines from various countries like Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Senegal, Gambia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Korea, Turkey, Malaysia, and America. The foods or drinks from foreign countries were represented by international students.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Marwan, the vice-rector for academic affairs of the university said on the opening speech that this event is a part of the university’s “Dies Natalis” program. This event is not only as a food or drink bazar but also as a center for students to learn and integrate and exchange cultures.

He highlighted the enormous success of the international food festival this year with a large number of international participants in this event as well to show their own cultures.

In 2019, Syiah Kuala University welcomed 60 foreign students from various countries. Through this event, they had a chance to promote their cultures of food.

The chairman of the Office of International Affairs of Syiah Kuala University, Dr. Muzailin Affan said that the first International Food Festival was held in 2016. In the beginning, only three countries have participated. Then over time, the countries have improved and many visitors have attended. Dr. Muzailin also persuaded societies and students to join and celebrated this festival. Besides, there were 46 food or drink stands available including authentic and international levels.

On this occasion, the organizer of the event, Office of International Affairs, has lined up diverse activities such as Food Workshop, Cooking Demo, Food Games, Photography Competition, and Art performance, and Music and Dance performance.  .
