SHORT COURSE ON DISASTER RISK REDUCTION & MANAGEMENT
In collaboration with Bogor IPB University, Syiah Kuala University successfully organized a summer camp on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Management” from August 18-26, 2019. Participants benefited from courses on various topics such as disaster management, environmental protection, forests management, tsunami and earthquake. But also from a lecture with experts in natural disasters and environment from IPB University, Syiah Kuala University, University of Malaysia Terengganu and Tohoku University.
A fruitful discussion on disaster prevention and its implementation enabled the students to exchange internationally on a real-time basis in view of their different institutions; the University of Malaysia, Terengganu University of Malaysia, Wuhan University of Geoscience, Fatoni University, Kobe University, Tokyo University and Syiah Kuala University. In addition, the course provided students with excursions to Mount Wallet in Bogor, the earthquake and tsunami sites in and around Banda Aceh, and a coastal area in Greater Aceh to protect the island place by planting mangroves.
IPB University opened the course officially on August 18th, 2019 by Dr. Ing. Dase Hunaefi, S.TP, M.Food, ST. He said that he was proud and pleased to conduct the disaster short course and welcomed the participants warmly.
Sugiyama Kota, a student from Kyoto University from Japan, said that he was very glad that he had a chance to join this program in Indonesia. He gained new knowledge about disaster and tsunami that he could share to his friends in Japan, although in Japan this such of disasters often happen.
