4th IMT-GT UNINET Council Meeting to Strengthen Regional Collaboration and Socio-Economic Impact

Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK), under Office of International Affairs (OIA) coordination, demonstrated again its leadership and commitment to regional collaboration at the 4th IMT-GT (Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle) UNINET (University Network) Council Meeting held at Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, Thailand, on 24-25 July 2024. The meeting brought together key academic leaders from member universities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, with USK as the Permanent Secretariat of IMT-GT UNINET.

USK delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Taufiq Saidi, M.Eng, IPU, Vice Rector for Planning, Collaboration, and Business, emphasized the university’s unwavering dedication to driving the consortium’s vision forward.

“USK is honored to serve as the Permanent Secretariat and we are committed to ensuring that every initiative and partnership under the IMT-GT UNINET banner leads to meaningful advancements for our member institutions and the communities we serve,” Prof. Saidi stated. His remarks underscored USK leadership in fostering academic excellence and sustainability across the region.

During the meeting, the council engaged in productive discussions on critical topics, including the active involvement of UNINET in IMT-GT Working Groups and the planning of future collaborative programs. These initiatives, which include summer programs, research collaborations, student mobility, and leadership development, are crucial to realizing the consortium’s socio-economic objectives.

In his address, Hon. Datuk Dr. Shahrin Bin Sahib, Chairman of IMT-GT UNINET, acknowledged USK role in steering the consortium towards impactful outcomes. “The leadership and vision demonstrated by USK are crucial as we work together to translate academic initiatives into tangible socio-economic benefits for the region,” he remarked.

USK proactive approach and strategic guidance were also evident as the council discussed the importance of aligning academic activities with the needs of the industry and community. The university’s efforts to bridge the gap between academia and real-world impact were praised, reinforcing its position as a leader in regional collaboration and innovation.

As the meeting concluded, the council reaffirmed its commitment to fostering deeper collaboration among member universities, with USK at the forefront, driving the consortium’s mission to elevate the socio-economic conditions of the region through education and research.
